Safari Itinerary
Your day-by-day adventure through Tanzania's spectacular wilderness
Day 1 - Arrival In Dar Es Salaam: Welcome To Tanzania
Arrive in Dar es Salaam, where you will be warmly greeted by our representative at the airport. From there, you'll be transferred to the city center for check-in at your selected hotel. Relax and unwind after your journey, preparing for the exciting adventures ahead as you rest overnight in this bustling coastal city.
Day 2 - Mikumi National Park: Exploring Tanzania's Hidden Gem
After a delicious breakfast, you’ll depart from Dar es Salaam and head towards Mikumi National Park, with a packed lunch in hand for your game drive. As Tanzania's fourth-largest national park, Mikumi is known for its accessibility and abundance of wildlife. The Mkata Floodplain, often compared to the Serengeti Plains, offers exceptional opportunities for wildlife sightings. Keep an eye out for herds of elephants, giraffes, and lions roaming the open plains. In the late afternoon, return to your lodge for a well-deserved dinner and overnight stay, reflecting on the incredible sights of the day.
Day 3 - Ruaha National Park: A Safari Through Tanzania's Untamed Wilderness
After breakfast, depart for Ruaha National Park, where you will embark on an afternoon game drive. Ruaha offers an extensive ecosystem that includes Rungwa Game Reserve, Usangu Game Reserve, and other protected areas, with the Great Ruaha River serving as a central focus for game viewing. Known for its high concentration of elephants, Ruaha is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. As you explore the park, keep your eyes peeled for magnificent mammals like Kudu, Sable, and Roan antelopes in the Miombo woodlands. The park is also home to endangered wild dogs, lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, and other fascinating creatures. Return to your lodge for the evening, reflecting on the remarkable wildlife you encountered.
Day 4-5 - Exploring Ruaha National Park: Unforgettable Safari Experience
After breakfast, spend the next two days immersed in the wild beauty of Ruaha National Park, with morning and afternoon game drives. Ruaha, spanning 10,300 km², is the most visited national park in southern Tanzania, yet its vast size means you'll often enjoy solitude and tranquility, encountering few safari vehicles. The park serves as a natural border between Africa’s eastern and southern ecosystems, providing a unique opportunity to spot rare wildlife. You'll likely encounter kudu, often found only further south, alongside Grant’s gazelles, whose southernmost breeding area lies here. The Great Ruaha River is the lifeblood of the park, teeming with crocodiles, hippos, and a diverse array of wildlife. Return to your lodge for all meals and overnight, reflecting on the diverse landscapes and animals that make Ruaha so special.
Day 6 - Journey To Mikumi: En Route To Selous Game Reserve
After breakfast, depart for a morning game drive as you make your way back to Mikumi National Park. The drive offers more chances to spot the abundant wildlife that populates this scenic park. Mikumi, bordering the Selous Game Reserve to the south, forms part of a unique and interconnected ecosystem. This day serves as a transition, preparing you for the next leg of your safari as you head towards the renowned Selous Game Reserve, one of the largest protected areas in Africa.
Day 7 - Arrival At Selous Game Reserve: Scenic Journey & Relaxation
After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive toward the Selous Game Reserve, passing through the Matemwe Gate. The journey takes you through the picturesque Uluguru Mountains, traveling along dirt roads that wind through remote villages, offering a glimpse of Tanzania’s rural life. After reaching the reserve and depending on your arrival time, you can enjoy a short game drive to start your safari experience, or choose to relax at your lodge to rest and prepare for the exciting wildlife adventures that await during the next two full days in the Selous Game Reserve.
Day 8-9 - Safari Adventures In Selous Game Reserve: Exploring Africa's Largest Wildlife Sanctuary
Over the next two days, explore the vast Selous Game Reserve, Africa’s largest wildlife conservation area, which, along with the adjacent Mikumi and Udzungwa National Parks, covers an area as large as Switzerland. Your journey will take you through the northern part of the reserve, open for photo safaris, where you’ll have plenty of opportunities for unique wildlife encounters in an unspoiled, remote environment. While the dense vegetation can make wildlife sightings more challenging, you can expect to spot a variety of animals, from the iconic African Big Five to over 400 species of birds. If you wish to enhance your experience, optional activities such as walking safaris or boat cruises can be arranged at an extra cost, offering a different perspective of this incredible ecosystem.
Day 10 - Return To Dar Es Salaam: A Scenic Drive To The Indian Ocean
After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive towards the Indian Ocean, heading through Mtemere Gate. You’ll arrive in Dar Es Salaam around noon, where you’ll be transferred to either the airport for your onward journey or a hotel of your choice, depending on your travel arrangements. This marks the end of your unforgettable safari experience through Tanzania’s incredible wildlife havens.
